LEADER OF THE PARK is not your ordinary vampire hunter story.
The main character, Eric Wells, is a nineteen-year-old gas station attendant, living in a trailer park with his alcoholic father, and desires nothing more than hanging out and partying with his trailer park friends, until he begins having dreams of deaths going on around him. And when those dreams become reality, he is thrust into a world that he would never believe possible.
So begins the strange journey of a young man into the life of a demon hunter.
This story is set in the early 1980's, and is full of accounts of young men and women partying, etc. as they unwittingly find that there is evil in their midst. Eric's world begins to fall apart all around him as he becomes the center of an unreal adventure, with no knowledge of how to deal with it.
Answers come from unlikely sorces. An old friend, an odd mechanic, and even his father, who has some experience with the world of vampires and demons too.
The author puts his own stamp on both the vampires and their slayers. Saunders' vampires are more modern; they can come out in the daytime, they are more socially active, and he refers to different types of vampires. The hunters have supernatural abilities to. They can see the threats in their dreams, and have a supernatural inner weapon to help fight these creatures.
In addition to vampires, this world hosts many other creatures of darkness, many of which are only visible to those who hunt them.
If you are looking for Dracula, then this book might not be for you. But if you are looking for something new and exciting, then I would recommend this book.
