More than anything, she wants to give him hope. Jeremy has cancer and he's about to have surgery. He's been very nervous about it so Annika is sure that all he needs is positive thinking to get him through it. Annika knows she has to be creative and make him believe that things will go well, so she tells him she has a magic genie that can grant wishes. What can go wrong? She knows what he wants, or at least she thinks she does. When her good intentions backfire and Jeremy wishes for Steve Raleigh, his favorite actor, to visit him, Annika decides to do whatever it takes to make his wish come true. She figures it shouldn't be too hard. She'll just show him Jeremy's picure and he will have to agree. Easy.
Not. So not easy. Stalking an actor is way harder than she thought. First of all, she has to find him, then she has to get close enough to talk to him without getting arrested or making a fool of herself. But Annika is no quitter. Even if it means wrangling snakes, becoming a nun and doing her own stunts, she will bring Steve to her brother. But once she captures him, will she be able to resist his charms? After all, he is rich, gorgeous and famous. They don't live in the same world but they may have more in common than they think.
Just One Wish is a bit of a tear-jerker, but it is also sweet, romantic and hilarious. The situatuions Annika gets herself into (and somehow manages to get out of) will make you laugh out loud and her devotion and love for her brother will melt your heart. I adore Janette Rallison's wit and humor. I love how she creates such amazing and relatable characters and truly brings them to life. This is another fantastic book she has written and I highly recommend it to anyone with a beating heart.

Brockmann delivers drama, comedy and believable, three-dimensional characterizations in this tale of Jericho Beaumont, a former a-list actor trying to rebuild his career after its flaming wreck due to his prescription-drug and alcohol abuse, and Kate O'Laughlin, a first time producer and screenwriter who is determined to get her independant movie made and made right, even if she has to demand her lead actor submit to daily drug testing and 24/7 supervision.The secondary characters also shine, particularly Susie McCoy, a 15-year-old child star who is trying to be taken seriously in her first adult role, and Jamaal Hawkes, a young, African-American man struggling to figure out how to deliver his best performance in the role of a slave when all he feels is anger and humiliation at the thought of being another man's property.Brockmann has obviously done her research on both movie production, and substance abuse and recovery. Yet, while the book deals with some very serious issues, the story and characters never wallow in self-pity or melodrama. I read very little romance, and buy even less of it new, but Suzanne Brockmann's name is at the top of my list. Read this book. Then do yourself a favor, and look into Suzanne Brockmann's backlist. Her books are well worth your time.

Also I got pregnant at 20 and decided to keep my son so I can relate to how hard of a decision it is for you. At the end I had a hard time not crying. It really gets you invested in the characters. Very well written.

Liberty's mother works hard to support her daughter on her own, and when she becomes pregnant, Liberty steps in to help shoulder the extra burden. Likewise, Hardy also comes from a single parent home (his father is in prison) and he works hard outside the home to provide extra income for his family.
Liberty is going through puberty when she first meets Hardy and she falls for him hard. He is her constant advocate, helping her with tests, teaching her to play basketball, helping her see her own inner and outer beauty. But Hardy wants nothing more than to one day leave the sheltered trailer park life behind him and make something of his life. He is determined to not wind up like his father and he knows that falling in love with Liberty will only make it harder for him to go. To both of their dismay, he refuses to get involved with her and he walks away from Welcome and Liberty without turning back. Shortly after, Liberty loses her mother in an accident and is left to raise her two-year-old sister alone.
Forced to act as a single mother to her sister Carrington, Liberty makes sacrifice after sacrifice to ensure they are both fed, healthy, and happy. She sets out on a career path as a hair stylist and moves with Carrington to Houston to work at a prestigious salon. Once there, she meets Churchill Travis, a successful businessman who the other stylists tell her would make a perfect "sugar daddy." Liberty has never considered such an arrangement, but when Churchill takes a personal interest in her and offers her a live-in position as his assistant, she lets herself be swayed for the sake of her sister. Living with Churchill will give Carrington opportunities Liberty could never afford on her own. Soon Liberty has found love, happiness, and contentment in the Travis home and things are going well. But when Hardy steps back into her life after nearly 10 years, she has to decide if she's willing to sacrifice the happiness she's found for the future she'd always dreamed of.
I was skeptical when I found out Lisa Kleypas, one of the leading authors of historical romances, was going to be writing a contemporary novel. I mean, her historicals are so good--why ruin a good thing? Well, I'm here to admit that I was wrong. I forgive her for going the route of contemporary, and if they're all going to be this good, I say keep at it. Sugar Daddy was "unputdownable." I read it in six hours and stayed up until 3 in the morning to do so (and I have to go to work in the morning). But there was simply no other choice. I became absorbed in the characters, in the story, in the outcome and I just had to know how things were going to work out. Liberty Jones is a well-drawn character who develops from a shy, awkward teenager into a self-assured, confident guardian to her sister. She puts herself second to ensure that Carrington is well cared for and even sacrifices her own love life for the good of her family. When she finally finds someone to love, I was so happy for her, but then Hardy stepped back into her life and I had to wonder if she'd made the right choice. Hardy Cates was the stereotypical first love, but more than that he helped Liberty find her own womanhood. When she felt awkward and uncomfortable he put her at ease, and when she went through hard times, he picked her up. I wanted things to work for them, but at the same time it took Liberty so long to move on that I almost resented the easy way in which he walked back into her life. I've read enough romances that I can usually guess how they'll end (happily, of course), but Sugar Daddy's ending was a pleasant surprise for me. This story ranged from laugh out loud funny (the emu story) to heartwrenchingly romantic, and every emotion in between. Pick up Sugar Baby when you're in the mood for a stellar contemporary romance that will keep you on your toes, but make sure you have a few hours to spare because you won't want to put it down.

The account her mother gave her about the birth of the twins had given her clues to her brother's identity and she was determined to find him. Her "psychic" abilities, if used could drain her of energy, not to mention the possible negative emotional effects.
She meets David in a police investigation and they become involved as "just friends". Though she does wonder about the possibility of his being her brother off and on. Then she meets Preston, Robert and Donald. Could any one of these men be her brother?
The story is told masterfully, drawing one to continue reading until the mystery is solved. Great reading!

(More customer reviews)I enjoy reading a cozy mystery. A cozy mystery is just that . . . no gore, ugliness or sensuality. Just like a great cup of tea! The title of this book, "Who Wants Tyler Dead?" makes for an interesting start to the story. Marielle is hired, after her accident, to take ten-year old Tyler, his younger sister, and their grandmother to Oregon. Marielle needs the money and decides it's the best thing for her right now. A nice, big, newer pickup with a camper hatch is provided for her to drive to Oregon. She, and her charges, camp along the way. Camping brings out ALOT of the incidences that create the mystery surrounding Tyler. I enjoyed the trip from California to Oregon with Marielle and the others.
This is an interesting mystery with some humor and romance intertwined throughout the story. Why is someone targeting Tyler? And where is the children's mother? Marielle's sleuthing comes to the front and so she's on the case.
With twists and turns, I found this book immensely entertaining.

Endings reminds us that a physician is capable of writing more than just prescriptions. This is a first - and one hopes, not last - effort by a Texas-based orthopedist, Barbara Bergin, who draws extensively upon her experience as a surgeon and as a championship horse rider. But while the practice of orthopedic medicine and the love of horses figure prominently in Endings this novel fundamentally has to do with the reality that lies beneath the superficies of our lives - a reality that encompasses the complexity of our human relationships, of love and loss, of matters present and past - of experiences which we may easily own and want to relive or which we may seek to escape. In short, Endings is a complex and challenging book..
The novel is also a love story - not a "romance" - but a story of love lost and love found, as ephemeral as that may ultimately prove to be. The protagonist, Leslie Cohen, an orthopedist who, through personal tragedy, has become a nomadic practitioner - a locum tenens - filling in here and there throughout the country when others go on vacation or medical leave (as is the case in the novel), literally accidentally meets (a collision on a wet Texas highway) an engaging rancher-cum-builder with whom she develops a relationship, in spite of herself. There is "love making" that is intimate in detail and convincing in passion - but without the kind of perfervid expression that often mars the depiction of sexual engagement in "romance" novels.
Leslie Cohen, as nomad, has entered into a journey - but it is a wandering both into the present and into the past. In some sense, she is at a stasis, stuck at a point in time, at which the past and present seem to fuse, beyond which she cannot pass. But is she stuck? Is there a present, and has there been a past? This is the ingenious point of the novel. It would be egregiously wrong for a reviewer to say more. It falls to the reader to get to the ending of Endings to understand and to plumb the depths of this narrative.
From a purely stylistic point of view, the author has a clear talent for creating in her central character a subject locus, a strong point of view, for the telling of a story that embraces in rich detail a broad canvas of the natural world (like Leslie Cohen's wondering about the destiny of vagrant scrapes of paper, wind-stuck on an Abilene fence) and of a shared humanity (as in Dr. Cohen's compassionate treatment of two "illegals" horribly injured while attempting to hop a freight train). While we are brought into the inner world of the protagonist, the narrative does not lapse into tedious introspection, and while we join with the protagonist in viewing her world and the people in it, the author does not fall into any kind of omniscient narration.
This is a novel that deserves many re-readings!

We get a very quick look into the lives of the two main characters before they meet for maybe five or seven pages or so, and then, bam, they meet and the action takes off and doesn't stop. I was surprised at how fast the book moves and how glued to the pages I was. It's just that kind of an addictive story. There are some new ideas on what a vampire is in this book. Being a longtime vampire fan since discovering Interview with the Vampire in the early 90s in junior high and then reading every vampire story I could find thereafter, I liked what the author had to say about vampires and what they really are. His vampires seem more believable than most others that come off as magical beings with no logic or science to explain their powers.
I have to admit that I'm not a teen or even into teenage lit, but I do have a thing for vampires. So I picked up this book because of that. I was happy that the writing seemed to be a cut above most of what's in this genre. It's a writing style that seems to be more adult contemporary that happens to be about vampires with a love story.

Enter wealthy playboy Devlin Temple. Is he the knight in shining armor who will rescue Hope's farm from financial ruin? Or is he a self-centered opportunist out to rob her of her life's work? Hope isn't quite sure, but she discovers she enjoys Devlin's attentions.
When unlikely accidents keep occurring at the farm, Hope is forced to consider that someone wants control of her farm badly enough to kill her.
This is a wonderful romantic suspense novel for animal lovers!

pay-per-view murder. A brilliant and rich entrepreneur calling himself
Screenshot sets up assassinations using remote-controlled weapons,
and his targets are people we'd all like to see dead, like terrorists
and skinheads. He then charges admission to see it happen, live on
your computer. The only way to track him through the veil of Internet
anonymity are the theories of a crazy scientist, and the only people
who believe him are a disgruntled FBI computer geek and an
investigative reporter.
These two team with the scientist, and are soon targets of Screenshot
and wanted by the FBI as suspects themselves. The technology sounds
plausible, and the weapons are really weird, including a liquid taser
called the Pediphryer, used on, you guessed it, a pedophile. The story
moves rapidly, especially when the good guys become the targets,
running from the FBI while trying to avoid Screenshot's new weapon
aimed at them. And the ending is a table-turner.
I'd recommend it, especially if you like techno-thrillers.

Their history binds them, but Spencer's accident changes the dynamics of their relationship in a way nothing else could have. Spencer has to learn to accept the things he cannot change and Rebecca has to be strong enough to see Spencer through. Their relationship evolves from sex to romance to a deep companionship. There are erotic moments, tender ones, and angst-filled ones as well. Cowboy Blues is a wonderful story with a lot of emotion and a long-deserved happily-ever-after.

Shut Out Review

(More customer reviews)Kody Keplinger blew me away with her debut novel The DUFF, so I went into Shut Out with the hopes that she could pull out something even half as good. Shut Out was definitely that, I would say that I loved it almost as much, and that is saying something. I was hooked from page one of Shut Out, and devoured it in one sitting.
Shut Out is a battle of the sexes, a love story, a tale of friendship, and more. I'm not sure how Kody Keplinger managed to put so much into one fun-filled story, but I'm so glad that she did. I can't count the number of times I found my self laughing out loud. I experienced the characters emotions (and trust me they were many, and wide ranging) but that is what made this story so enjoyable.
Each character was so relatable, whether you loved them or hated them. From Lissa, the well meaning, and slightly neurotic main character, to the sexy guys that she is battling, to the best friend who is who always seems to be right (even when Lissa doesn't want her to be), to the bitchy other friend that never has anything nice to say. They are all well written and so easy connect with.
I would recommend Shut Out to anyone who loves a good battle of the sexes, loves a good laugh, or just loves a good read, I don't think you will be disappointed. Shut Out brings all of that and so much more.

Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it's a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part,Lissa is sick of it. (More customer reviews)For the record, I fully blame Simone Elkeles for my obsession with the young adult genre. Before I got my hands on a copy of Perfect Chemistry, I thought YA novels were strictly PG rated and the most passionate displays of affection was a line saying, "We made out last night." Nothing was ever discussed in detail, let alone the smoldering way Elkeles writes a love scene. As if that wasn't enough, she doesn't flinch when tackling tough subjects like gang violence and teen sexuality.
I fell in love with this series three years ago, and this final installment was just as hot and sultry as the previous two books. Luis, being the youngest, was so much fun. He didn't have the jaded cynicism his older brothers had going into this book. He was a reckless, fun guy who liked to make people laugh. This is what made the revelation about his past all the more saddening (sorry, that's all I'll say - read the book to find out what happens).
I wasn't all that crazy about Nikki. I understood she got hurt in a major way by a major creep, but I felt some times she took her mistrust in Luis too far. Towards the end I warmed up to her, but for a little while I thought she needed a good slap. I did, however, adore her friends Derek and Kendall. For some reason I looked forward to any scene they were in.
I felt parts of this book, especially the end, moved too fast. I would have liked a little more filling in the Latino Blood storyline and Luis's reactions to what he discovered. I felt that came and went too fast. Then again, it might just be me with a serious case of the Oliver Twists, making grabby hands and begging for some more because I knew this series was coming to a close.
It could be argued that Elkeles's books in this series are formulaic. After reading the first, the other two play out the same way, but I went in expecting that. There are no real surprised, but I recently saw on the news that people are almost 40% happier when they read a book or see a movie already knowing how it will end. This book is a classic example of that: I love knowing that in the Simone Elkeles's world love truly can conquer all.

Sliding Home (Richmond Rogues, Book 4) Review

(More customer reviews)Kason Rhodes comes home from spring training to find Dayne Sheridan in his shower. Assuming the trailer was abandoned, and falling on hard times, she had taken residence in the trailer, to work on saving money and healing her broken heart (her fiance, a radio DJ, broke up with her on the air). Kason may play for the Rogues, but he is a Loner with a capitol L and wants her out. She has no where to go, and fights to stay.
I really enjoyed this book. The secondary story was just as interesting as Kason and Dayne's story, and I found myself again rooting for the Rogues, both on the field and off. For those of you who read and enjoyed Curveball, you see a lot of Psycho McMillan, who is my favorite of the "Bat Pack." There were more than a few laugh out loud moments (making love on poison ivy is never a good idea). I love sports romances, and have ready many many many! Kate Angell's Richmond Rogues are one of my favorites...right up there with Susan Elizabeth Phillips Chicago Stars and Dierdre Martin's New York Blades. I hope she continues to write more. They are now a definite auto buy for me.
This is a quick, fun story that will be great to read on that blessed first day of school when peace comes back to your house after a long summer of lots of noise. :)

Fran does not feel that this is good or normal. To make it worse, Fran can read people if she touches them. Something her mother thinks she should use at the faire but which Fran is uncomfortable with. Then a sexy motorcycle rider shows up. He is the younger brother of one of Fran's few friends. He is also a very old vampire. While longevity goes with either sex, only the males can be true vampire. And if that wasn't enough, the vampire tells fran that she is his beloved and only she can lift his curse.
Now Fran has a vampire follower who almost worships her, a talent she hates, a mystery of who is robbing the faire, and everything is just confused. So Fran tries to hold off the vampire, agrees to use her talent to try and find the thief, and befriends a very special horse. Sounds simple enough until she finds herself fighting for her life against demons.
The relationship between Fran and Benedikt (the vampire) develops but it is obvious there will be more stories involving these two. The mystery was good and the action was acceptable. Katie Maxwell has created a very interesting world where demons, vampires, psychics and magic all exist. Her take on the vampire is new and fresh. This is not just a vampire teen romance. Check it out.
