Chariot SideCarrier 1 Child Side Mounted Child Carrier Review

Chariot SideCarrier 1 Child Side Mounted Child Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned this carrier for 3 years and I have to say that chariot makes the highest quality carriers on the market in my opinion. The benefits to a side carrier are the ability to view you child with ease vs turning around to a trailer, the ability to use a trail-a-bike, utility or child trailer in conjunction with the side carrier. The negatives that I found are. 1, the tire wear. 2, the hitch weighs 1Lb 10oz and if you have a bike with expensive light weight components and your concerned about your bikes total weight this is problem, and it's not practical to remove the hitch when not in use. 3, if you ride on sidewalks the total width of the bike & carrier may be problem depending on you cycling skills. 4, if you use panniers on the right side of the bike it will affect your right turning ability. 5, clearance issues if you have a front fender. The unit handles very well. Other than that it's a very cool design and you surely wont run into many people using the sidecar.

The instructions are lacking and the seat post holes came out of the box bent a bit, but after a little fix-up work, my kids love this thing. After getting used to the new balance considerations, it's very stable and safe.

We absolutely love this item. My car had died about 1 yr ago and we bought this in order for us to get around town. For 1 yr it was our only mode of transportation. It was great to be able to unhook her and let her go. After 1 yr we had to replace the tow bar receiver kit, due to the horrible streets where we live.

Adams Original Shifter 7 Trail-a-Bike Review

Adams Original Shifter 7 Trail-a-Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased an `Adams Trail-A-Bike Folder Twenty-Four - 24", 7-Speed Shifter' and an `Adams Trail-A-Bike Original Shifter Seven - 20", 7-Speed Drivetrain' for two of our children so that we could enjoy family bike rides together. Both loved their new `bikes' although we were not able to use them often just after purchase due to the weather.
The 24" has continued to work well.
On the 20" we did have some problems with the wheel locking up as other reviews had mentioned. This occurred when walking the bike (bike not being pedaled). I found that I could move the wheel backward with my hand and this would "unlock" it and it would then function normally for a time. In addition to this we noticed an unusual noise from the trailer while riding it. I eventually took a closer look at the wheel and discovered that the axle was bent or improperly installed. It took some time but the seller eventually replaced the wheel for us and it seems to be working normally. In addition to the wheel issue we had trouble disconnecting the trailer from hitch on the adult bike. The seller was less helpful here stating that they could not diagnose the problem without being able to see it. I eventually fixed this with a file, although I'm not sure if that will reduce the life of the parts.

Adams Trail-A-Bike Folder 1 Compact - White Review

Adams Trail-A-Bike Folder 1 Compact - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We love this bike trailer. It is very stable and is easy to connect and disconnect (a concern of mine as I like riding by myself too). My daughter who is 6 and has Down Syndrome, LOVES riding it and wants to go on bike rides all the time now. She doesn't have the muscle tone to ride independently, and this was a great alternative to a bike stroller (which is not very age appropriate). It did take some bribing to make her try it, but now she loves it.
The only bad thing - it arrived damaged from Fed Ex, as a result, I believe of poor packaging from the manufacturer. When I contacted them for replacement parts, they said I had to contact the dealer, that they couldn't help me and even reprimanded me for buying online (they don't have a local dealer near me). The only option with Amazon was to return the entire thing - Luckily, the seller was helpful enough to locate and send me replacement parts (the handlebar and the seat tube).

Trail Gator Review

Trail Gator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been wanting to get my family active into bike riding for some time. We live within three miles of shops, restaurants, entertainment, etc, yet we always drove. When my daughter was three, we spent a weekend at a local resort that had a lot of riding trails. I saw a gentleman hooking the trail gator up to his bike and stopped and chatted. He only had great things to say about it and I thought this was the perfect solution. When we returned home, I ordered the Trail Gator from Amazon. When it arrived and my husband installed it, it was pretty easy to attach. As other reviews state, you do need to adjust it a bit to the side, otherwise your child will lean quite a bit. We had to play with it for a while to find the perfect setting so our daughter would be sitting upright. However, now that we have had it for about 9 months, it is easy to attach and use. I ride my bike to work sometimes, and remove her bike from mine quickly. It also attaches just as fast. The biggest issue I have with the arrangement (not a problem specific to this product), is that she always seems to hit the brakes going uphill. We've decided that it is probably an adjustment issue, with her trying to scoot further up the seat as we go uphill. She is learning to pedal uphill, which helps a lot. Another problem, again, not specific to the product, is that my bike doesn't always like to shift down when I'm pulling her up the hill. I need to shift down before I get to the hill, otherwise I really struggle making it up in the higher gear. This attachment requires that you remove the training wheels, or purchase the flip-up type (due to going around corners). My daughter doesn't yet ride without training wheels, so we don't go anywhere and let her ride on her own, unattached. Overall, this product has been fantastic for my family. We ride our bikes at least once a weekend to get lunch, icecream, coffee or to the local greenway for a picnic. Sometimes we ride around the neighborhood just to ride. She loves to go on short trips on weeknights after work/daycare. This product has really enriched our lives and is hopfully setting up our daughter for a lifelong love of riding.

Trail-Gator Flip Up Training Wheels Review

I purchased these training wheels for my daughters 20" Schwinn bike.
The bolt that is supposed go thru the bike wheel to connect the training wheels together is too short. When I contacted BikepartsUSA where I purchased them thru Amazon.com, this is the email that I received..........................."I am sorry that the training wheels do not fit but it is not our fault that your bikes axel is not long enough. I am also sorry to inform you that the restocking fee will still be induced because that was not a fault of ours that the wheels did not fit. To return though you do not need a RA number anymore that is our old policy just ship the training wheels back to the address below".

They advertise this product to fit a 20" bike and it does not. Now I have to pay a 15% restocking fee.
I would be careful if you do business with this company.

Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer Review

Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a lot of research into these trailers before making my purchase. I read plenty of reviews, checked it out at a local REI, and I even watched a video right here on Amazon from someone who really hated it, before making my decision. All I can say is, for the money, there is not a better trailer out there. Sure there are better trailers, but they all cost two to three times what this trailer cost - and many of them are heavier.
I put it through it's paces on a short 8-mile ride - sans kids - and found it rolled well and was extremely stable. I then decided to tempt fate and put my 2 year old in it for a short 20-mile river bike path ride. Loaded it up with her favorite stuffed animal, a couple books, a cooler of food, and diaper bag and hit the road. The added weight was noticeable but tolerable, riding in the saddle posed no noticeable problem with maneuverability. When standing for a short climb, I did feel a bit of a tug that limited my ability to really hammer - due to the limited rotational flex of the hitch, but again, tolerable and I quickly learned how to manage the limitations. And to be quite honest, I had to remind myself that this was a ride as much for my daughter as for me, and the added weight was greatly adding to my workout and speeding up hills simply wasn't necessary.
As far as the front flap is concerned, I put it down for the first half of the ride as it had recently rained and I did have to ride through a few puddles and minor mud patches. Nearly all of the debris and water ended up on my back like it always does; nary a drop of water was on the window of the trailer or up under onto the mesh door. So for the second half of the ride, I decided to roll up the outer door and just go with the mesh door. This posed no problems at all, and in fact I could hear my daughter playing inside as I rode, which made me very happy. She absolutely loved it!
So, are there things I didn't like about it? Not really, but there are a few things I noticed that could probably be done a little better. First, the brake is very solid and effective, but in my opinion, contacts the tires at a bad angle and puts a fair amount of torque stress on the rims and axles. It is hard to say how continued prolonged use of the brake could effect the trueness of the wheels, so my recommendation would be to use the brake sparingly and absolutely do not store the trailer with the brake engaged.
Second, the product literature states that you and your passengers should all wear helmets, so I went out and bought a cute pink Bell helmet for my daughter. She got used to it well enough, but the "helmet pocket" (the loose mesh wall above the seat) is a bit too tight and does not allow her to comfortably put her head back. It will probably be less of a problem as she gets a little taller, as her head barely reaches the top of the seat. She actually preferred to ride sitting forward with her feet on the front bar, so it was no big deal.
Lastly, as the video reviewer points out, the outer window door does appear to be a half to maybe an inch too narrow, although it is fully functional and DOES cover from side-to-side, it takes only a small amount of care to align both sides so they wrap around the corners. The air gap is present, but again, I do not share the video reviewer's concern that debris or water would be thrown up into this gap in any great amount. If I were at all concerned, I would simply have a Velcro strip sewn on to the lower edge of the outer door and onto the corresponding area on the inner door to seal the bottom.
All-in-all, this really is a great trailer for the money. It's sturdy, light weight and stable, and my daughter loved it!
Edited 08/03/2010 - I changed the title to include the price I bought it for since it has gone up considerably since I wrote how great this trailer was for the price. The trailer is still great, but I would recommend searching around for the $249 price.

We have used this for a couple months now and are very happy with it. It appears to be well built and well thought out. It is also easy to move from one bike to another. For some reason ours didn't come with instructions. It made for putting it together a little difficult, but not too bad. Also, it does not convert to a stroller if that's what you need.

Schwinn Turbo Bike Trailer - SC775 Review

Schwinn Turbo Bike Trailer - SC775
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've had our Schwinn Trailer for one year. My daughter enjoys riding in it very much. There is a place for her drink, and the seat is comfortable enough that on longer rides she falls asleep.
I bought one of those seats that fits on the back of a bicycle, but it wouldn't fit. The back fender of my bicycle was too wide for the seat, and we didn't want to force it. I'm glad it didn't fit. The trailer is just great. It rolls smoothly on inflated rubber tires. I'm careful when turning that I don't hit curbs, the trailer turns very well. My daughter has room to wiggle her feet, without kicking me, she is protected from the sun, and mosquitoes with the cover and the bug/debris net. The side windows are easy to see out of. She enjoys riding in the trailer, and sometimes we even take the neighbor's granddaughter with us. They both fit comfortably (remember less than 100 lbs) It's a great purchase.

Kent Dual Drive Tandem Comfort Bike Review

Kent Dual Drive Tandem Comfort Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered the Kent Tandem and it took about 5 days to arrive. I expected this to be a "BICYCLE KIT" and it met my expectations 100%. I removed every component from the frame one by one and inspected/lubed/re-assembled back on the frame and adjusted. The ONLY thing that had even a trace of grease on it was one of the bolts for the stoker handlebar clamp(Seriously). Every bearing was dry. The rear wheel was missing 5 balls on the gear side.I mic'ed the balls on all the bearings and all were within .0001 in. or less difference. Both tires had maybe 10 pounds of air in them. I let what little air out and pulled the tires to inspect the wheels and spokes. The spoke strip on the rear wheel was pushed over and not covering the spokes in two spots so there was a sure flat if I would have just put air in it without checking. The front tire was OK. The front wheel was within .080 in. of true both horizontal and vertical. The rear wheel was out approx .600 in. horizontal and .080 in. vertical. It wouldn't even roll without the tire hitting the frame. I trued both wheels to +/- .020 in.("close enough" for a bicycle) along with setting a little backlash on the spokes in the process. As with everything else on the bike, The brakes and both derailers weren't even close to being adjusted correctly. The return springs on the rear brakes were in different holes. When adjusting the derailers I noticed the rear derailer was bent. I called the toll free # for Kent customer service and told the lady the problem. With no questions asked, she took my name and address and said she would get another derailer in the mail that day and I didn't need to send the bad one back. A close look at the frame and no cracks, bends or dents were found. The welds are not as pretty as they could be but they didn't look bad at all and showed signs of good penetration at the weld edges. While waiting for the new derailer I peeled off about 10 pounds of stickers and installed some aftermarket fenders,a rear cargo rack, two bells (The stoker has to have fun too),rear view mirrors and naturally some streamers on the handlebars. The replacement rear derailer arrived in three days. I'm VERY happy with their customer service. After assembling the tandem "KIT" and adjusting the seats and handlebars we took it out for a "Maiden Voyage" of 31 miles. The bike rode really well. The frame was MUCH STIFFER than our old Columbia tandem. Shifts were smooth, quick, precise and quiet. No "Auto shift" from frame flex on take off or climbs. The brakes worked nicely and took very little finger pressure to stop on the small hills we encountered. I think the supplied Velo seat will have to be replaced for me but my Wife seemed to like her seat OK so far. We managed to hit our fair share of bumps and pot holes along with going down some rough gravel roads so I was wondering how things were holding up. After we got home I looked everything over and all was as it should be. I didn't use the dial indicator again but "eyeballed" the wheels judging with the brake pads and spinning the wheels and they seemed to hold true. We really like the bike. It does just what it was designed for (cruising around the neighborhoods) and does it well. It's just what we hoped for and expected and we think it's well worth the $248.00 shipped. We had a BLAST riding "twogether" through the neighborhoods of three small towns Sunday. If someone is looking for a cruiser tandem and can assemble the "KIT" themselves then I would recommend the Kent. If you are not comfortable doing the work then I suggest talking with a local bike shop, Give them the list I posted here in this review of the things I HAD TO DO to assemble the bike for an example and get a estimate. It might cost more than it's worth if you have to go that route. Even with the missing ball bearings, I give it 4 stars for the style and price. Heck, you can't expect "top of the line" quality on a $248 tandem.

I bought this trailer from a local bike shop so that I can tote around my twin daughters by myself when I want to bike. The storage area in the back is fantastic, the jogging wheel pops on easily enough and swivels independently which not all jogging conversions do (nor do they all come with the wheel attachment, you have to buy it seperatly), it's very light weight and easy to lift, the bike attachment attaches easily to your bike and folds under the trailer so it's ALWAYS there. I am very happy with this trailer and would highly recommend it. Amazon.com price is slightly under what I found local retail.

Schwinn Mark II Bike Trailer (Red/Grey/Black) Review

Schwinn Mark II Bike Trailer (Red/Grey/Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i did quite a bit of research online (comparing descriptions, reading reviews, etc.) and thought this would be the best bike trailer for our family. we decided to not go super cheap and couldn't afford a $500 trailer so this seemed like it would work.
PROS: the price, it was easy to assemble, it looked good, and would be easy for our daughter to see out of.
CONS: the seat was like a sling that didn't have much support so our daughter was slouched, there was only 2 layers of fabric between our child and the ground, and the cover attaches with a long thick line of velcro, so every time you want to get your child in or out, or get into the back compartment you have to rip open the cover, which was difficult to line up and cumbersome in general.
the cons out-weighed the pros so we returned this trailer, and found a burley d'lite for $100 more at a warehouse store that has a great padded seat, better harness and strap hooks, easy clips for opening and closing the cover, and a movable sun shade panel which gets more use than i would have expected

A children's bike trailer is great when you're on the move, but what happens once you arrive at the grocery store? With a normal trailer you'd just park it outside, but with the Schwinn Mark II, you can convert it to a handy stroller and bring your kids inside. The Mark II sports a lightweight aluminum chassis that provides space for up to two children, along with a zip-down weather shield that protects them from rain, wind, and other inclement weather. More importantly, the trailer is designed for quick, tool-free conversion, with a universal trailer coupler that attaches to any bike and a flip-out front wheel and handlebar for the stroller. It's easy to use, fun, and versatile. Other details include smooth-rolling, 20-inch wheels with a quick-release design for easy storage; a hideaway clear window; a dual harness system; outrigger wheel guards; and a screened canopy for ventilation. The Mark II measures 35 by 31 by 20 inches when folded, offers a maximum weight limit of 100 pounds, and is backed by a five-year warranty.

Avenir Solo Trailer with Stroller Attachment Review

Avenir Solo Trailer with Stroller Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I purchased this trailer for our son, from our local bike shop. First, I have to say that I strongly disagree with the individual who had negative things to say because I do not have one. We have had only the best experiences with ours, both using as a trailer attached to our bikes (which by the way attaches very well to Mountain bikes, Beach Cruisers, etc). It also makes for a great "joggers stroller!" My wife is an avid jogger, generally for a minimum of 10+ miles and she used this trailer/jogger for our son when she went and never once had a complaint. The only unfortunate thing is our son has long since out grown this trailer now, but we sure got our use out of it and have nothing but positive things to say! I would recommend this to any persons looking for a great bike trailer for your infant/toddler that converts to a great jogger (since it is a REAL front tire vs the little junky wheels on most other trailer/jogger combos)! I hope this helps in your decision and obviously feel free to look at other trailer/joggers before making your final decision, I just want you to know that this one, personally was the best choice for us and we are glad we did not go with another one!

Adams Trail a Bike - Original Folder Review

Adams Trail a Bike - Original Folder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Adams Trail-a-Bike so my 3.5 year old son and I could go riding together. I researched all the available models and liked this design the best (I'm an engineer), but could not decide on which size would be best for my son (Compact or Original). So I called the company and got REAL person that actually understood the product to answer my questions.
But I was leary of purchasing the Trail-a-Bike without any customer reviews. So I decided to purchase a Wee-Ride Co-Pilot from a local store because I could return it if there were problems (such as described by other Amazon customers). Good thing. The Wee-Ride assembly prevented the U-joint hitch from moving. I tried loosening the bolt but my good tools only made the Allen head hexagonal flats into a circle (the bolt was made of mild steel). So I returned the bike and the other one in the store had the same tight u-joint problem. So I left without a bike.
Now Chritmas to fast approaching, so I ordered the Trail-a-Bike from Seasonal Outfitters through Amazon. It was shipped super quick and arrived a day early.
I wish I had not wasted two trips (purchase and return) in buying the Wee-Ride model. The Adams Trail-a-Bike is an excellent design and well built. The hitch/u-joint and the folding mechanism are what separate this trailer bike from the others. One quick connect clamp allows the bike to fold and to ajust the seat height. Even though it is easily loosened for folding, it is very secure because the natural pull by the lead bike tries to keep the bikes straight.
The hitch has different size inserts to securely grip the lead bike's seat post without allowing the clamp to crush the seat post and make it out-of-round. The hitch is cylindrical with a square post in the center. This makes a very stable connection but one that can easily slide apart when the hitch pin is removed. The connection on the Wee-Ride required a hammer to slide the hitch apart. I can easily make the connection with one hand while holding my bike from falling over. It works so good I would suggest buying a 2nd hitch Adams Trail-A-Bike Hitch With Shims, Replacementso that two bikes can be set up to pull the child's Trail-a-Bike.
I have pulled my son about 10 miles on 3 trips. He loves it. He is very stable and the Trail-a-Bike even goes around corners well. The u-joint even allows me to take sidewalk ramps to the street while making sharp turns without a problem. He is currently too small to peddle, but he can place his feet on the peddles when the seat is at the lowest position and I have turned the handle bar as low as possible.
I only have to remember to keep my speed down to the recommended level because I can't be sure that my son might see something interesting and decide to get off without telling me. That is why he has a helmet, knee and elbow pads.
Overall this was a good purchase.
