(More customer reviews)I lived in the South all my life, always aware of NASCAR, watching races every now and then. Even so, I haven't tuned into to a NASCAR race in probably 25 years. Because of this book, I will when the next season starts.
One can truly begin to understand the mystique of NASCAR after reading A Little Bit Sideways. Scott Huler's obvious love for the material really shines through. His writing transforms what, in lesser hands, could have been a dry and boring recitation of minute details into an interesting and compelling human interest story.
Read it. You won't be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)We first checked this book out from the library, and my boys (ages 2 and 3) couldn't get enough. After renewing the book from the library several times it was clear we should just buy it. I can see them enjoying this book for years.
The words are catchy and engaging ("Great day, grin day, build a car to win day") and the story is uniquely entertaining (A hot rod for a hamster? Who would think it would be so fun?). My boys like to say the words along with me and the race at the end is always greatly anticipated. They also like the "What would you choose?" parts where they can pick what they would want for a hot rod. I don't buy kids books unless I love them (or my kids do and I can tell it's a good book), and this one's a keeper.

Flat Out: The Race for the Motorcycle World Land Speed Record Review

Not a whole lot of technical information for gear heads, but basically from the inside of the cockpit - oh my God! - and team dynamics. It was worth adding to my collection of moto-journalism, and made a good read for my light rail commute.

(More customer reviews)The "real" story about NASCAR is very enlightening. I have looked forward to having a real "underdog" to root for in NASCAR for so long. This is a very clear and in-depth reason there will no-doubt never be one. When I read about Wendell Scott a few years ago, I started watching a few of the events, "knowing" someone with the ability to compete on this level would rise through the ranks and get my heart thumping. Racing While Black lets me know, it's no going to happend in NASCAR, so no longer am I even interested in looking at it. I try to stay away from the various sponsors, in that I now know they really don't appreciate it anyway.
At least NHRA and Formula One Racing warrants attention. Maybe, just maybe,there will be another champion that looks like me. Lewis Hamilton did well and I look forward to seeeing him drive here in the States.

Ron and Barb draw on their 9+ years of full-time RVing to share things they have learned through experience.
One of the great things about the book is that they do not try to provide in-depth information in areas that are obviously a matter of opinoin. They do not tell you what kind of vehicle you should own and how you should pack it.
They do tell you the joys and hardships of a full-time lifestyle. They share their own costs to show what one can expect to pay to enjoy this lifestyle. And they offer glimpses of what the lifestyle has to offer.
This is a "must read" for anyone considering a full-time lifestyle in a recreational vehicle.

During these trips I made some mistakes, and learned some new ways of doing things to make the next trip better. I've also received a lot of advice (mostly good) from people, either in person, or from various internet groups and e-mail lists. A lot of the information that I learned, to make motorcycle travel easier and more fun is in Dale Coyner's book. He starts with the very basics. Where are you going, and how will you be getting there? How should you plan your route?Then goes into how to prepare your motorcycle (no matter what type of motorcycle you ride), and how to prepare yourself, both mentally and physically. Then, before it's actually time to go, what do you need to do, so that when you go, you'll be able to go with no worries.
Reading this book is like sitting down with a group of experienced motorcycle travelers and hearing them talk about their journeys and their secrets. Only with the book, you can pull it out at any time and look for specific information to help you out. The full color pictures, maps, diagrams, and sidebar information add a lot of detail to the subjects and help with understanding. It's a great book for a beginner, and a good resource and review for experienced travelers as well.
