It gives an overview of the kinds of things you will have to deal with which is a good idea because taking on the responsibility of a horse should not be a decision lightly made or gone into blindly. It is not meant to tell you everything you need to know, but lets you know where to get more information as you become more serious or have made a purchase. Besides the practical advice, Nancy has told her own story, which lends a personal warmth to the whole book. It is obvious that, although she has had difficulties and heartache as a horse owner, she feels it is worth every bit of it.
