the description does not say that it is incomplete and that you need to purchase the cross bar separately. In fact, the description says it is ready to go. But when you get it, there is no cross bar and the picture on the box does not have the cross bar. would have been nice to know at time of purchase. Other than that, it works as advertised.

Weston Gear Universal One - Man Canoe Loader Review

I purchased one of these in June of 08 and hauled a 17 foot canoe from Maine to Montana. Along with two Yakima racks on my Honda Odyssey and load stops the canoe never moved an inch. Coupled with the Yakima rack system this is an excellent extension for your long canoes. Only negative thing I could say is that it's a little tippy loading. Just remember to tie down the canoe before you swing the canoe around to your roof. This is just a minor isssue.

Thule 997 Goal Post Hitch Mount Truck Adapter for Thule Canoe and Kayak Carriers Review

I bought this hitchpost to haul my 12 1/2 foot porta-bote on top of my F-150 (Cab to Hitchpost).
It fits into the 2" receiver on the back of the truck and bolts to your hitch via a threaded receptacle. (It would have been better to have a normal sized hole so I could use my locking receiver bar) It has 2 straps which I hooked inside the truck bed. I also added a second strap and that seems to hold the back from swaying. I tied rope around the hitch to hold the porta-bote onto the hitchpost. This seems to hold it tightly. You can adjust the height of the hitch post easily. I am using car straps to hold the front of the porta-bote on the cab of my F-150 but this is a separate issue.
All in all, I am pleased as it has solved a problem for me.
