(More customer reviews)What a great time I had with this book! Every page, and every photo, brought back memories of these cars. It's a really nicely produced volume (I already bought a copy for a friend who's rich enough to collect real cars!) and if you leave it out on a coffee table, say, everybody reaches for it and, as they leaf through it, they invariably start to smile. Now I'm just sorry I gave away (or maybe my parents did) all my own toys from the 60s!

(More customer reviews)I liked the catalog, but was dissapointed to see that all of the pictures were black and white (I think I do remember pages in the 60's that had color). It looks as though someone just copied the pictures on a plain copier, and slapped this book together. The idea was very good, but don't expect the quality of true Sears Catalog pages.

Scale Model Collectible Cars: with Selective Catalogue Histories for Matchbox, Corgi and Schuco Review

(More customer reviews)I was born in 1966 and enjoy these small die-cast cars. I liked to collect "Matchbox" cars formerly made by Lesney Toys of England and I also like the more upscale products offered by "Corgi Toys." This book by Marc Nonnenkamp has a handy detailed listing of the Matchbox product line from 1948 through 1992 inclusive. It also has examples of Matchbox from both the Tyco Toys and the current Mattel years. Personally I am much more interested in the Lesney (1948 to 1982) Matchbox International years (from 1983 to 1992). My favorites are the Matchbox "King Size" and Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear" lines, both included in this book. The illustrations in this book all come from "Corgi Toys" because the author's work is endorsed by Hornby Hobbies - the current owner of the Corgi brand name. The Amazon Kindle e-book edition features working links to and from both chapters and illustrations as well as some Internet links. Nonnenkamp has favorable recommendations for reputable toy retailers such as Asheville Diecast of Asheville, North Carolina and 3000toys of Joplin, Missouri (yes, that's the Joplin hit by the recent tornado). Asheville Diecast has endorsed this book on their site at [....] and 3000toys has endorsed this book on their Facebook page with more than 1,300 members. Barnes & Noble at [....] features an endorsement of this book by Susan Pownall, the editor of the Corgi Club magazine from England with more than 4,000 members worldwide. I strongly endorse this book and all others by the author Marc Nonnenkamp.

Matchbox Toys 1947 to 2003: Identification & Value Guide (Matchbox Toys: Identification & Value Guide) Review

(More customer reviews)I collect superfast Matchbox from 1969-present. This book only lists 1-75 (1/64th scale) Matchbox cars which is fine for my use. It is good becasue it lists all models in alphabetical order so you can cross-reference the number (1-75) of the model - most model numbers are not imprinted on late model cars so it is helpful in that respect. However, I found it lacking in the number of variations it listed. There is no consistent differentiation between wheel type (other than RW and SF), interior color, stickers/decals or other minor variations. This guide does not use the same numbering system as Charlie Mack's Encyclopedia (e.g. 14 A 3) making it difficult to have the references compliment each other. This guide does list more recent models where as Charlie Mack's guide is typically long overdue when a new edition comes out. But again, this one is not as complete regarding model variation so you may not know if you are collecting all the variations of a particular model you want in your collection. Another positive point of this book though is that not all pictures are of perfect cars -- the cars in the photos have a little play wear and is more reflective a practical collectors cars rather than some ideal collection most of us will never have. Lastly, in comparison to Charlie Mack's guide, I find it nice becasue most of this book does dedicate it's picture space to the 1-75 models. One of the dissappointments I have found with Mr. Mack's guide is that it lists a lot of subtle variation (i.e. light blue, mid blue and dark blue Soopa Coopa) but does not show pictures on how to tell the difference (neither does this one -- it doesn't even try to differentiate). Also, much of the picture space in Mr. Mack's guide is with models that no one I know really collects (i.e. NOT 1-75 series, super kings and models of yesteryear). I'm still not sure where 1/2 of the pics in Charlie Macks book come from (I've been collecting MB superfast for 20 years) -- perhaps thats why it is called an encyclopedia. Dana Johnson's book simplifies things but does not take it to the next level by any means.
Basically, I use Dana Johnson's book as a supplement to find model numbers so I can look up varaitions in late model cars in Charlie Mack's guide. I do think Mr. Macks guide can be too complete, in that it lists more model variations than most people can possibly collect. However, Dana Johnson's guide is too incomplete. I prefer Mr. Macks guide becasue it lists all known variations and allows me to decide which variations I think are significant to collect.

Tremendous Toy Trucks: With Step-by-Step Instructions and Plans for Building 12 Trucks Review

(More customer reviews)This is an absolute OUTSTANDING book! I'm a home woodworker with a very small shop. I don't have a great number of tools but the great thing about this book is that you don't need many. (Although I did go out and buy a table top bandsaw to simplify a few of the operations)
The plans in this book are very easy to follow and the results are incredible. I've only made one of the trucks, but it turned out great. I spent a few hours for two or three weekends and I just can't say enough about this book.
The author suggests using hardwoods, but I've had some difficulties finding a place to get them. My truck was made mostly with scraps that I had laying about my shop and you would never know. If you like small projects, these make perfect gifts as toys, or as models. I'm also certain that there is a market for the trucks as I've been asked to make several already.

Hyper Disc Clay Thrower Review

(More customer reviews)I bought 2 Hyper Disc Clay Throwers. Each thrower came with 2 extra rubber tubes. Between the 2 launchers and 6 tubes total, we were able to launch about 10 clays before ALL tubes broke. When it worked, the clays launched great. The tubing is under-rated for the application! I would give it 5 stars if the tubing lasted.
