This book opened our eyes to more of the camper models that we collect. It is very informational and the pictures are awesome. We do have alot of what is listed in the book. But we also have alot that is not. I rate this book 4 stars.

We recently purchased a pop-up camper and quickly realized that the camping book world revolves around tents and RV's. There was very little material for those middle-of-the-road campers who wanted something better than a tent but not anything huge. I could not find much information other than a few websites with tidbits or pockets of information. I wanted checklists, to-do's, packing information, towing instructions, and help on living under canvas with a family in a pop-up. Mellody Allee has filled this voice very nicely with her book.
It is an unassuming publication, broken down by chapters into food themes giving us bite sized morsels of information that are easy to digest and sensible. Her book is full of practical advice for beginners but I suspect that even experiences campers will find tasty nuggets of help in the extensive receipt or first aid sections, as well as the comprehensive checklists for a trip. Allee provides equipment ideas and tips based on her personal history of camping and along with detailed photographs, gives the reader excellent references to topics on a wide continuum of interests.
This book is easy reading and jam-packed with good, solid, well-tested and tried advice. It will be a permanent fixture in my camper's toolbox as I do not want to leave home without it. The first aid section alone is worth having along. Her lists on the order to put up and take down a pop-up are thorough and saved us a lot of trouble as our camper manual's instructions were very simplistic. Her writing style is conversational and she passes on many of their tent-trailer experiences, good and bad, that I found insightful and interesting to learn from.
This book is wide-ranging, covering topics from pets, children, games, lots on first aid, practical and easy recipes, camper interior and exterior maintenance, winterizing, packing, unpacking (her fridge secret is great!), the excellent rolling pantry, and so much more. She keeps her advice simple and clear.I took this book with me for our maiden voyage trip this weekend and reread most of it -and found more juicy kernels of information that I could now use as we had gained a little more experience. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a camper or tent, or who is thinking about getting a camper - you will not regret the purchase.

Trailers & Fifth Wheels Made Easy - With Bill's Hints Review

List Price New: $7.88
I recently bought a used travel trailer (my first). I assumed the original owner's manual would answer my questions and show me how to use the trailer. Wrong! I was shocked to find the original owner's manual to be so generic & general. I later learned that the walk-through, by the dealer at the time of original purchase, is the key to learning how to use your travel trailer. But I bought this trailer through an out of state private sale. I had no one to turn to for help. As such, I began looking online at various guidebooks to help me. This is one of the two guidebooks that I purchased.
The book - or more appropriately a "booklet" - is 59-pages, not including the pull-out checklists inside of the back cover. The booklet covers: Safety, Weight Ratings, Towing, Hitches, Braking, Wiring, Mirrors, Transmission Coolers, Tow Vehicle Hook-Up, Driving, Setting-Up, Entrance Door, Entrance Step, Master Control Panel, Managing Consumables, Fresh Water, Battery Power, Fuses & Bulbs, Propane, Refrigeration, RV Toilets, Waste Water Tanks, Waste Water Treatment & Odors, Sewer Hook-Up & Dumping, Awning, Leveling, Slideouts, Backing Your RV, AC Electric Power, Aux Generators, Water Heater, Furnace, Roof A/C, Tires, Tow Insurance, Spring Cleaning, Cold Weather Operation & Storage, Tent Trailers, and a series of Data Sheets, Specs & Checklists (Towing, Hook-Up/Un-Hook & Packing).
As you can imagine, that's a lot of material covered in only 59-pages! Some topics receive 1-2 paragraphs while others have 2-3 pages devoted to them (Note: there are no pictures or diagrams). After each topic, Bill gives a list of "tips" in bullet-format (most tips are 1-2 sentences).
While this "booklet" alone will not teach you how to use your travel trailer, I surprisingly found it to be better (more helpful) than the original owner's manual. I have easily recovered my $10.98 investment ($7.88 + $3.10 shipping) through several of Bill's helpful tips.
In summary, for Newbies this booklet will increase your knowledge and fill-in some gaps where intuition stops - and I suspect that seasoned RV'ers may even glean a helpful hint or two. If new, reasonably priced copies are not available on Amazon use a Search Engine - and don't pay a base price over $10.
