(More customer reviews)Saris builds bike racks like a brick-you-know-what. The T-RAX is no exception. I regularly haul bikes all over the mountains and by-ways of the Pacific Northwest, this four-place hitch-mounted rack works with my Prius perfectly. I have had this rack for three-plus years and it is going strong. Straps that hold on both the vertical and horizontal axis to keep the bikes in place, there is no issue about rubbing - and they go on and off in seconds. With no hitch-wobble due to the screw-down pin system (seriously, the only major concern I have with my Prius is that I forget bikes are back there). I have been very happy with the Saris T-RAX, it was a bit more than several bargain racks - but has none of the issues which can make hauling bikes a pain, or even dangerous. There are more expensive rack systems available, my opinion (based on several years of use) is that Saris is all-that and more. It is so strong, I leave it on during the week to discourage those who parallel park by braille - no one messes with my back bumper anymore!

He was informing me that my Bike rack had broken and one of my bikes was just before hitting the road. One of the arms that support the bikes had broken totally off and was laying in the middle of the intersection. I thinked him, placed the bike inside my RV and continued on my trip. I would have never have thought this would happen. So be told the support arms can and will brake off.

(More customer reviews)I tried a friend's very similar to this. Also bought a different type that uses the rubber straps for securing. I prefer these plates that screw down. Also, my friend's bolts are shorter, so with bikes with fat bars, you had to use an adapter. Still have to use adapter for one 24" bike, but the 26" bike has enough clearance between bars to slide the bottom plate through. Just wish it would swing down for easier access to liftgate.

(More customer reviews)Product was inexpensive and looked great. Very easy to assemble and attach to our SUV. Upon first use, product wobbled back and forth even when fully tightened. Tried to tighten further and rubber eye that velcro tie was threaded through broke. If we did not have bungie cords with us to secure the bike, it would have ended up falling off onto the freeway. Product was returned. Would not recommend.

"provides the ultimate in flexibility to accommodate a variety of bike frame designs"
So I figured I'd spend a little extra $$ on the rack and avoid buying a bunch of crossbars. Unfortunately, the rotating cradles are so big that quite a few bikes (including my GT XCR) start having trouble fitting into them without quite a bit of twisting and pushing, on top of that pretty much render crossbars useless.
It is a good rack but I'd recommend getting the non-rotating cradles if you really want more flexibility in the bikes it can accommodate.

As soon as I pushed down the ratcheting hold downs, the bottom wire cradles bent down and the bikes were not even close to being secure. There's no way I would trust this rack with any bikes. I returned the item. I had to eat the shipping costs.

Surco DBR400 OSI Swing Away Hitch Mount Bike Rack, 2" Receiver, Up To 4 Bike Capacity Review

(More customer reviews)I own three other bike racks so I have some experience with both good and bad ones. I just installed this rack on our truck and camper because a swing away is the only thing that will work for this application. The swing away part of this rack works quite well and is easy to use. Even the threaded bolt that holds the two arns together seems to be strong enough and well designed so that cross threading should not be a problem when locking the swing away arm in place for transporting. However, the top plate, which holds the bikes in place is very hard to use. It has three tie down bolts that each have to be tightened and loosened a little bit at a time, individually, because they bind up if any one bolt gets to far ahead of the other two. Also, if you were too strip these bolt threads out the bike rack would be completly useless. I also found that my four bike rack is probably only going to be able to carry two road bikes at a time unless I remove the handlebars on the middle bike and yes I did reverse the way the bikes face on the rack. Because of the way the top plate works it is not possible to adjust the bikes up or down very much when they are on the rack to make them fit better. Also if you have bikes that have different widths of top tubes it may be hard to fit them on this rack due to the way the top plate works. Without thinking about it very much at all I decided that a better way to have the top plate work would be to have a hinge on one end and a clasp on the outer end that would fit over an eye plate which would also make it very easy to lock down the top plate with a padlock which would be much more theft proof than the lock that is provided.

1. The design of the hitch mount that lets you use 2" or 1.25" receivers makes the rack cumbersome to install.
2. The rack uses a threaded bolt, instead of a hitch pin, to attach to the receive. The bolt is an odd size, so it is impossible to lock the rack to the receiver.

Yakima Flipside 4 Bike Rack Review

(More customer reviews)This bike rack is finished very nicely with very few exposed nuts and bolts. It comes with anti-sway supports that fold down and attach to the vertical seat post tube on your bike and keep the bike from rocking back and forth while traveling.
It is also very well built but it has a few flaws that are worth mentioning. The integrated locking cable would be handy but it was VERY difficult to stuff back into its storage compartment (located in the vertical support arm) but your mileage may vary. The cable felt like it was longer than its storage space so much pushing and twisting was needed to put it back.
The rack is also very large and VERY heavy, much more so than would appear in the pictures. This could make it a bit awkward to install on your vehicle but it should be very sturdy because it uses a threaded bolt to attach itself to the hitch.
I also noticed that the provided lock for the hitch bolt wouldn't engage if the safety pin was in place. It works fine without the pin but installing the cotter pin doesn't provide enough surface for the lock to grip onto apparently. This could just be a flaw with the one I had so you might have better luck.
I never actually tested this rack with a bike because I wasn't able to install it on my car. The part that goes into the receiver hitch was too long for the hitch on my Honda so the locking bolt holes wouldn't line up. The Thule Ridgeline appears to be very similar to this model (and hopefully has a shorter hitch mount =).

Swagman XP Fold Down 3-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third bike rack my wife and I have tried and for once a pleasant surprise. I own a Jeep Liberty with the spare tire mounted on the back. Most hitch mounted bike racks require you to purchase a hitch extension costing between $30 and $70 dollars to clear the spare. The mounting tube on this rack has two pre-drilled positions, one for clearing a spare, and one for bringing the rack closer if you don't have a rear mounted spare. Needless to say I was pleased not having to spend the extra money for the extension.
This is also a well built rack, not flimsy like many similarly priced racks I have seen. There is no need to provide extra stability with straps etc. to keep it from twisting.
This rack provides quite a bit of security as well. A locking pin is provided for attaching the section that swivels to the section mounted to the hitch, and one of the three mounting brackets has a locking knob.
Finally, the single tube design is a lot more adaptable than the racks that have two arms for holding the bike. We bought a Thule spare tire mounted rack for my wife's Jeep, and while it is a nice rack, we had a really rough time getting the frames of our mountain bikes to clear the two support arms. With the Swagman, it is no problem, much easier to load and unload. You can rest assured you will get your money's worth with this rack.

(More customer reviews)It is as advertised. The unit itself is well built. The rubber pads that the bike sits on will easily slide back and forth on the bars. I'm thinking of hose clamps on the bar to act as stops. On my 1-1/4" hitch the unit is just a little bit smaller and will pivot 5 to 10 degrees (parallel to the back of the car) even with the hitch pin inserted. Not a big deal as during normal driving (even at 70 mph)it doesn't rock back and forth unless you're going over bumps. The threaded hitch pin is milled at the end to accept a hitch lock, but doesn't come with one. you're on you own for the lock. I bought mine for $70 at wal-mart and thought it was an OK deal
