From this first edition (which is now out of print), I learned far more than just how to tie rope halters for horses. I learned how to tie rope halters that fit EACH individual horse perfectly--no matter what the age, breed, or size.
There are no photos. Instead, the halter-tying steps are presented in computer-drawn illustrations, which I find clearer and easier to follow when tying knots than photos. Hand-done drawings are used to show how a halter should fit and how to measure a horse for a halter.
An X-shaped Double-Overhand Knot--made by tying two intertwined simple overhand knots--is the main knot used in the halter. Above the lead rope loops, a Fiador Knot is used.
My copy of the book has stood up well to lots of use. The cover is plastic laminated (two sides). There are handy charts inside both the front and back covers. The inside pages are printed on heavy, quality paper. (Although Amazon doesn't yet have it listed, a second edition of the book is in print.)
Bottom line: This book covers the subject of making rope halters in depth, and it does it in an easy-to-follow way with great supporting details. The approach to tying the Fiador Knot is the easiest I've found. The lay-flat wire binding, large-size type, and non-glare pages make it a user friendly book. It's been a valued reference in my horse library.
