Mary Beisner has written a first-hand account of her experiences as an owner of a trailer park. Her cast of characters come to life as she tells their stories, and how they transformed her life. The chapter titles are inviting; she is masterful with details. Each chapter ends with a zinger, often highlighting her own very personal learning. Mary Beisner's encounters with her "trailer trolls" exhibit her own kind of "faithing;" that is, she practices her Christianity through acts of good will at Airport Mobile Home Park.

I was stunned when I arrived at work Monday morning to see fire trucks, police cars, firemen and officers milling around the grounds of our newly acquired Airport Mobile Home Park What had caused the fire in Bernie and Betsys trailer? Was it an accident or the result of an on-going feud? Was this an isolated incident or merely foreshadowing of what lay ahead for us? Mary Eisners account of suddenly being thrust into the role of owner and landlord of a mobile home park with all its obstacles, escapades and challenges is humorous and at times poignant. A fast, fun read!

Trailer Park Hippies Review

Trailer Park Hippies
Average Reviews:

It's lively. It's present. Like a play- jabs me immediately into the situation. Fast. Tight. Bang. Bang. Right into the movie set. Reminds me of "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues". Cutting edge. There's a host of characters, an American setting- the kind of home which doesn't make the cover of Chatelaine. A troubled family. Trailer Parks. Only in America. Coleman has mined this territory and the offbeat people who inhabit these colourful dwellings on the fringes of society and set it all against the crazy weird and pulsating backdrop of the late sisxties when life was lived on the edge like it was one long and endless acid trip. Our main heroes, "the son" and his sidekick Bo, are products of Adolf's Trailer Park in East Morton, mifits of this subculture. Characters are alive and their personalities leap off the page. Coleman has flair. They are illuminated.Besides creating scenes where images are heightened visually, and emotionally alive and electric, Coleman has an inherent natural verbal capacity for vocabulary and a talent for dialogue. He shines both here and in his ability to create suspension. It's not just sex, drugs and rock and roll, it's social re-creation and documentation, it's comedy, a good read and a good novel.

Set against a tacky backdrop of Midwestern squalor,Trailer Park Hippies is a tale of parental insanity, adolescentinfidelity and the moral disintegration of the late1960s. School-skipping, drug-crazed teenagers engage in highlyconsensual mobile-home sex while Country Joe and the Fish blare at topvolume from cracked stereo speakers in the background.

This is a wonderful resource for anyone who travels with a camper or RV. The guide gives the traveler an excellent idea of what to expect at each campground listed (all of North America). Listings are by state and are cross referenced by campground name. Campgrounds are rated for completeness of facilities, cleanliness/construction of restrooms and showers, and visual/environmental appeal. I think the most helpful aspect of the guide is the restroom cleanliness star rating system. Trailer Life 2000 has made my family vacation planning so much easier.

Trailer Trash Review

Trailer Trash

Trailer Trash is one of those books you read just to get a chuckle. You can't help but laugh at Anita McDonald's deadpan style of writing, especially if you've lived in a trailer house at one time or other in your life. I have, and I can relate to some of her musings. One thing I found very amusing was the fact that they had bought a trailer in order to save money, yet they tended to buy the biggest and best of everything else. McDonald takes you through some of the oddities of country living in small bites that are just right. I would say Trailer Trash is definitely worth reading!

We have owned the Trailer Life Directory for several years and find it to be an excellent investment for anyone who wants to know about the RV parks and campgrounds in the United States.
We have placed the tabs that come in the book into the various states locations so that we can quickly find the state that we want to learn about. We plan to purchase the 2004 edition when it becomes available as the prices change each year along with new rv campgrounds emerging and some no longer available.
An excellent way to know what is available ahead of time.

The Sailor's Book of Small Cruising Sailboats: Reviews and Comparisons of 360 Boats Under 26 Feet Review

The Sailor's Book of Small Cruising Sailboats: Reviews and Comparisons of 360 Boats Under 26 Feet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a must buy for anyone searching for a small cruising sailboat or larger daysailor under 26' including most mid-sized trailer boats. The author has an extensive and admirable background in the field of monohull sail boats and shares his love for the hobby in this fine compilation exhibiting hundreds of sailboat specs and drawings. Many sailors have strong opinions about boats they've owned and loved but Henkel gives us the basic facts and leaves the fluff to the manufacturers brag sheets. Well presented and good for many hours of armchair sailboat research. Your eyes will be opened to many fine small boats you didn't know existed.
As an avid former catamaran sailor myself, beachcat sailors must know that a "cruising boat" and small catamarans are two completely different beasts. The title of this fine work says it all so don't expect what it doesn't promote. Fair winds.
Michael

I've only been in RV'ing for a short time. Amoung the biggest fears I had in planning a trip was reserving a campgroung that was unsatisfactory. I went to the bookstore and spent an hour thumbing through Trailer Life and Woodall's. Both are great guides, but I found TL's rating to be much more thorough. They have three ratings 1-10 where Woodall's was just two 1-5. Both seemed to cover the same amount of spots and have the exact same ads, so on the outside they seemed to be just as accepted by campgrounds as the de facto guides. I've been pretty pleased with the ratings that TL provided, and it has kept me from being dissappointed. However, the listings are mostly by cities or mailing address. So if you looking to find a great campground in an area it may be listed under the mailing address rather then the area. That can be difficult to cross-reference city and town names with local areas. It'd be nice if they had a numbered map by region or state. That'd make it much easier for planning.

Trailer Boating the Sea of Cortez Review

Trailer Boating the Sea of Cortez
Average Reviews:

Okay, I used this book as a guide for taking my 20 foot Four Winns on an adventure through the Baja. I was traveling solo! While there are many details in the book, they must be dated as I foud many of the ramps either not working or abandoned and some where the timing of tides affected the use of ramps. Granted Baja suffered from a difficult hurricane season in 2009, I am just saying the info was not always helpful and often unreliable. That having been said, I had a fantastic trip. The adventure to be found when you simply slow down your life is awesome.

This book fills a long felt need for those with small boats. It is based on Gerry's 50 plus years of experience as a cruising sailor in the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) and describes 20 locations where trailer boats can be launched. It tells you how to get there, the local facilities, and what is available within 20 miles of the launch ramps, for fishermen, scuba divers, sailors, whale watchers, shell collectors, and kayakers.

dellvery was ridiculous. This was ordered mid December for Christmas and I got it last week. I'm not happy, however this is my fist bad expereience with your Company. Several days before Christmas as the merchandise had not arrived I called. The Company said they wouldsend another copy and this arrived about January 2. The other merchandise was received promptly and within a very reasonable time frame. Kudos for the other experiences but not for this book.
Thank you

Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day: A Novel Review

Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day: A Novel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bobbie Faye Sumrall is the type of gal a guy could really be attracted to--in the same way a moth is attracted to a flame. This tart-tongued Cajun's day starts out with the destruction of her trailer and with her accidental parcticipation in a bank robbery, and this is before things start going downhill. Bobbie Faye is Contraband Days queen, and at the center of this insane romp of kidnapping, intrigue, suspicion, threats, car chases, gunfire, voodoo and a string of utter disasters is Bobby Faye's homely tiara. Bad guys want it and will kill to get it, even though it seems to be worthless; Bobbie Faye won't give it up because it represents her family's highest achievement.
Toni Causey's achievement is to pack so much disaster (and laughter) into a single day. Bobbie Faye's Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day is a lively, thoroughly enjoyable summer read.

I was surprised to find how many places in Wisconsin that I've camped at are not listed in this book. It is huge but still far from exhaustive. The emphasis by far is on commercial RV parks over national, state, and regional campgrounds. My view of Woodall's is similar. Between the two of them, they cover enough RV-friendly places in Wisconsin to be useful, but even combined are woefully far from complete.

I found this book extremely helpful. Even though I don't trailer my horse but a couple times a year, I thought that the information provided, was layed out well and the pictures were great. Besides learning how to safely trailer my horse, this book also taught me how to control my horse from the ground using voice commands, which I found handy whether I was putting her on a trailer or not. I have all of Cherry Hill's books and the pictures always make things quick and easy to follow. What horseperson has time to read wordy, time-consuming volumes on horsecare? Pictures tell a thousand words!

This book really helped me get an RV that made sense for me; I think that's the best part of the book--the details on how to choose an RV and how to learn to drive one. It's the only book that really shows you how to walk through a used RV to get one in good condition. I enjoyed all the personal notes about things that work and things that don't when you're RVing.
